Here is an assortment of different perspectives on this possible idea of the next Dalai Lama being a woman. Some are against it and some are for it. The future will tell meanwhile the public have their own opinions on the subject.

Tenzin Palmo speaks out

Tenzin Palmo has a deep love for the Tibetan Buddhist beliefs and feels women have a special role in this religion. Women balance out the role that men have. They're like the yin and yang: men and women. You need both to have a complete system. Men and women are alike and have all the same problems. The divination between men roles and women roles shouldn't be divided the way they are and essentially aren't needed. The rise of women leadership is coming quickly and the confidence of women is getting stronger every day and is just going to keep growing. There's no stopping it or turning back. Women have found their voice.

Dalai Lama POV on the next one

The current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is very open to the idea of the future of the Dalai Lama position being held by a woman someday. The Dalai Lama would consider himself a feminist, but that doesn't totally account for his recent stance on the next Dalai Lama possibly being a female. He is even accounting it up to biology and character traits. He sees women as compassionate and nurturing beings and believes that according to his Buddhist faith, a compassionate leader would be a good fit for the Dalai Lama position. He doesn't see gender as a hinderance to either being or not being the Dalai Lama. Overall, he firmly believes that if the position needs a woman than his successor will be female or the one after that. He says it all depends on what hte future needs and who will be best to fit that need. "If the circumstances are such that a female Dalai Lama is more useful, then automatically a female Dalai Lama will come."

Chinese Regime opposing view

The Chinese Regime and Tibet are currently  having major political issues. The current Dalai Lama would normally reside in Tibet, but because of the conflict he was removed and brought to India for safety. But the Chinese Regime are demanding that the next Dalai Lama must be approved by the Regime and not only by the Buddhist faith. The Chinese Regime is claiming this order as sticking to tradition because of the current Dalai Lama's views on new non-traditional views on the reincarnation of the next Dalai Lama. But this order can be seen as a way for them to gain more control over Tibet. With the next Dalai Lama on board with the ideal of the Chinese Regime they will be more likely to side with htem rather than their own Buddhist faith and traditions to uphold. In this case we can infer that a female Dalai Lama would not be something the Chinese Regime would approve of, since they don't appoint many women to roles of powerful status.
